2013 Man of the Year: Paul F Tompkins

Guys, GUYSSSS there are few things that brought me greater joy this past year than a PFT moment.

"First grade picture day. I was THRILLED about that tie."
  • Found a new fan in Liam Ryan which is just great. #KingHat.
  • Also got back into some Pod F Tompkast, those complicated character plotlines get so amazing.
  • All of the Speakeasy episodes! Especially that one with Pablo Schreiber was a delightful suprise.
  • His American Idol 2011 episode recaps were maybe the best thing I read all year.
  • The Ghost of Richard Harrow
  • An episode of any podcast with him as guest is easily the best episode of that podcast.
  • Probably heaps more

My Best of 2013: MUSICS

Ooooh get ready to be shocked and amazed, Internet.

Oh HELLO AND GOOD DAY TO YOU Father John Misty. Okay firstly this album is my favourite of the year but because it was already a year old by the time I got to it, there is some kind of non existent rule that it can't be my #1 of the year, probably, I don't know. But Fear Fun was my best in 2013, and that's that. Moving on to things actually released in 2013, though I suppose...

Courtney Barnett yesssss der. Whether solo or with Fraser Gorman at that MMW gig in matching outfits or with her excellently named The Courtney Barnetts pretty much anything she did was the best A+++

Phosphorescent! This guy. Muchacho is a great album and I am quite certain I will love this Mr Cowboy Smiles forever. Bonus points for an old album Aw Come Aw Wry acquired this year which is also very great. Aghhh love you phossyyyy.

Super Wild Horses I really loved their album this year not that I didn't love the first one too but that is not the topic today. Crosswords is fun and now I am sad that these girls have called it quits :(

Venice Music - very lovely and amazing and I hope he one day makes my dream come true of marrying Lil Leonie it will be a supercouple to end all supercouples I am sure.

Honorable mentions to Kurt Vile, Bill Callahan, Beyonce, Kanye (that one grew on me). The new albums from these guys were all very good to me but for one reason or another did not 100% win me over? Too much noodling, flutes, something & ridiculousness. Still love you all though! I am sure they are all very relieved to hear that.

#4 Nebraska
#5 Enough Said
#6 Before Midnight

Runners up in no particular order: Monsters University, Prisoners, The Heat, Mood Indigo & The East.

Okay that is all the ones that were new (at least in Australia) in 2013. Some olds that I saw for the first time and loved include Before Sunrise (I KNOW), Before Sunset (I KNOWWWWW), Wake In Fright & Winter's Bone.

Excuse me where have these two been all my life?

The worst thing I watched in 2013 is a toss up: Twilight 5 vs Spring Breakers.

My favourite things right now

Oh hi just in case you have been wondering, these are my favourite things right now

"you dress like a garbage can"
Ronna & Beverly EXCUSE ME seriously I cannot get enough of these two. Usually with interview type podcasts I just seek out the guests that I already love or know but I have gone through all of those now and am onto just any episodes at all with people I have not even heard of and they still RULE.

@Rudd2000 I thought this would have run out of steam by now but nooooope it still literally makes me laugh every single time. Abracadabra, chicken twisties.

Paul F Tompkins as the Ghost of Richard Harrow. I wish this could happen every week. Here is a link to one episode of pure joy.

3 COMEDY FILMS IN ONE DAY

Yesterday I watched 3 comedy films! It was raining like crazy so staying inside a cinema for 5 hours and then going home for a third movie seemed like a reasonable thing to do. Here have some lists about it.

THE HEAT was pretty good, would recommend. An enjoyable police movie.
  • Melissa McCarthy is quite great.
  • Bullock was also alright. People always go on about her being so funny hey.
  • Paul Feig, he done good again which just makes me so pleased.
  • Also Kreayshawn in the soundtrack? Ha whaaaat. Fun.

THIS IS THE END was funny too. Better than I expected even tho it has had a good reception. I kindof thought it would be overrated because it was always friends of theirs who were saying so. But it was actually not as bro-y as I expected so that was a nice surprise.
  • Craig Robinson.. easily the most I laughed was his monkey keychain flashlight bit.
  • Mikey Cera killed it in his colourful jacket.
  • Jonah Hill as Woody Harrelson A++
  • Ok all of them were pretty good I don't need to list every actor. So many good tiny cameos.
  • It was nice to see Jay Baruchel as one of the main main guys.
  • It did maybe go on a bit long (even though it was not actually as long as The Heat). One less giant demon would've been fine.

BACHELORETTE was not good.
  • Not.
  • Good.
  • Which was not a surprise but kind of a shame, because decent cast and also these two together again:
Aw <3
