My favourite things right now

Oh hi just in case you have been wondering, these are my favourite things right now

"you dress like a garbage can"
Ronna & Beverly EXCUSE ME seriously I cannot get enough of these two. Usually with interview type podcasts I just seek out the guests that I already love or know but I have gone through all of those now and am onto just any episodes at all with people I have not even heard of and they still RULE.

@Rudd2000 I thought this would have run out of steam by now but nooooope it still literally makes me laugh every single time. Abracadabra, chicken twisties.

Paul F Tompkins as the Ghost of Richard Harrow. I wish this could happen every week. Here is a link to one episode of pure joy.

Oh HELLO. This is my destiny's child/beyonce playlist it is called Beyonce Is Best are you ready here is some livetweeting (except not because it is just here instead of twitter) while i listen.

countdown: i love this song so much if i was not at work right now i would also fire up the video clip it is the best

motown single ladies: this is still probably the greatest thing the internet has given me in the last few years thanks very much

run the world: ok i was not on board with this originally for some reason maybe it was the clip coming after countdown and people thinking it was better but geez louise i am on board now. my favourite bit is when she says "then get back to bidness"

jumpin jumpin: could this be my favourite destiny's child song? yes it could. i recommend you listen to it super loud in headphones on public transport everything is way funner even the fearing for your life because terrible bus drivers

crazy in love: is this the best song ever made? IS IT? top three, at the very least. don't argue with me, jerk.

halo: i can see your halooooo-oohooooo this is another good one for really loud headphones the big piano and clapping is SO GOOD

nasty girl: aww this reminds me of squeez i think probably she used to sing it a lot or call me sleazy and easy? anyway this is a fun song with some important life advice. also we should all call our house our heezy more. there is a line in here that i always think is "these men don't want no happy meal thats been around the blockby meal" but it probably isn't.

single ladies: oh i have this on here again? ok sure it is a good time why not.

love on top: holy cow so many key changes make it so awesomely neverending it just goes and goes and goes wooo!

3 COMEDY FILMS IN ONE DAY

Yesterday I watched 3 comedy films! It was raining like crazy so staying inside a cinema for 5 hours and then going home for a third movie seemed like a reasonable thing to do. Here have some lists about it.

THE HEAT was pretty good, would recommend. An enjoyable police movie.
  • Melissa McCarthy is quite great.
  • Bullock was also alright. People always go on about her being so funny hey.
  • Paul Feig, he done good again which just makes me so pleased.
  • Also Kreayshawn in the soundtrack? Ha whaaaat. Fun.

THIS IS THE END was funny too. Better than I expected even tho it has had a good reception. I kindof thought it would be overrated because it was always friends of theirs who were saying so. But it was actually not as bro-y as I expected so that was a nice surprise.
  • Craig Robinson.. easily the most I laughed was his monkey keychain flashlight bit.
  • Mikey Cera killed it in his colourful jacket.
  • Jonah Hill as Woody Harrelson A++
  • Ok all of them were pretty good I don't need to list every actor. So many good tiny cameos.
  • It was nice to see Jay Baruchel as one of the main main guys.
  • It did maybe go on a bit long (even though it was not actually as long as The Heat). One less giant demon would've been fine.

BACHELORETTE was not good.
  • Not.
  • Good.
  • Which was not a surprise but kind of a shame, because decent cast and also these two together again:
Aw <3

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2: The Actual Worst?

Well I did it, I completed the PENTALOGY (I had to look that word up, don't pretend like you already knew it) of Twilight films and let me tell you, I regret most of it. I would probably be fine with a one hour condensed recap, there seriously was only that amount of stuff in all five of these things I am sure. BUT ALAS I AM NOT HOLLYWOOD. Can you imagine if I was! It would go like this: "Hey more Mark Duplass and John Hawkes in everything, you morons. Also stop doing unnecessary remakes and also stop making things so LOUD, it hurts my ears in cinemas." What a good President of Hollywood I would make. Anyway here are my notes from watching this final piece of Twilight Saga. I had to do it in two sittings, 8 days apart. And Tristan, I am ready to discuss this monstrosity with you!

  • We begin with the lengthiest fucking opening credits EVER GOOD LORD.
  • Oooh someone went to film school
  • Clumsy dialogue: Drink! Someone says "I love you": Drink! Forest running!!! Drink!
  • Aghhh CGI baby why??
  • ACTING! Shit I am glad I am not actually playing a drinking game I would be fucked.
  • Hoooly shit that is a lot of lamps in one room.
  • *phone rings* everyone looks TERRIFIED it is just a phone you guys cool it
  • I am finding this plot very hard to follow
  • Woah woah Jacob since when do you have to take off all your clothes to animorph? This is creepy, way to make Moustache-Dad super uncomfortable.
  • Bella is a jerk.
  • I know this is probably not an uncommon thought but seriously who is responsible for this film being made?
  • HAHA A MAGICIAN VAMPIRE who knew it could get worse!
  • Yay a vampire that talks like a vampire! Finally!
  • BUNK MORELAND WHAAAAT
  • Gigantic wolves: Still hilarious
  • Ok I have no idea what this film is actually about. My understanding is that vampires are apparently not allowed to procreate and so they are in trouble from the meaner vampires and Dakota Fanning?
  • Ooh here comes what I am sure will be the most ridiculous fight of all time
  • Haha the insisting of ripping heads off is quite funny
  • Oh the fight was all a dream GIMME A BREAK if you are going to do that you are meant to kill off the main jerks so it means something.
  • Can the kid not speak? Is that a thing? Is that what the face touching is about? I don't think I have paid attention enough at some point.
  • So what happens when she grows up and hooks up with the werewolf, how messed up are THOSE kids gonna be? Can't wait for that eleven part sequel saga.
  • Oh good a montage to remember the three fucking things that happened over these ten film hours. And they forgot to recap the million chess games! Guys! You forgot about all that chess!
  • The end. FOREVER. FOREVERRRRRR we can hope. Unless you get some tattoos.
yaaaaay

These are some good interviews that I recently enjoyed

Catchy title, me.

GUYS. INTERNET. Over the past couple of days I have listened to podcasts for the majority of my days and oh boy there have been some good ones and if you think you enjoy the same things that I enjoy then I recommend the following to your earholes. Ready???

Terry Gross interviews Matthew Weiner Mad Men has been quite good this season wouldn't you say.

Terry Gross interviews Sarah Polley ahhhhh I cannot wait until this film comes out Sarah Polley is so excellent.

Terry Gross interviews Greta Gerwig & Noah Baumbach and this film too! There's a bit in this interview where Greta gets emotional about her Greenberg character and it is very nice.

Oh Greta.
Lily Tomlin on Bullseye. She is greaaaat. Also there is added bonus interview with an astrophysicist afterwards, because wooooo spaaaace.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus & Armando Iannucci on Bullseye! Veep is almost definitely the best show on TV right now you bunch of idiots. #GoT

Noah Baumbach on WTF erg I cannot believe I am even recommending an episode of WTF but Maron does manage to shut his trap long enough for Baumbach to speak a bit so there you go.

In summation, Terry Gross is the greatest.

BYE XOXO

My Best of 2012: FILMS

I propose that 2012 be forever known as year of the Duplass Brothers especially and also Mark Duplass. KILLIN IT, these guys! In chronological order of my viewing:

MARS was pretty fun and strange and come on now a cartoon Duplass in space are you kidding me, how can you go wrong? It was made in 2010 but only reached my eyes in January 2012.

SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED was GREAAAAT. It was nice to see Aubrey Plaza smile a tiny bit more than usual and Duplass with that hair and clothes and serious face and when he is running? Haha so good! And the other characters were even enjoyable even if a little cliched. I really enjoyed every second of this and didn't know what to expect as an ending which seems unusual but it was exciting.

YOUR SISTER'S SISTER. Easily my favourite film of the year, hands down. I saw it twice in the cinema and I'd do it again, dammit. I don't even know what to say about it I just loved all of it. There is something about that Rosemary DeWitt's face, hey, I cannot look away. And Emily Blunt's cute little accent and Duplass' bumbling without being a nonce about it and just the whole story and the characters and that bit where he is all "I am emotionally at best precarious and at worst a cripple" oh maaaaan. MAN. You done good, Lynn Shelton.

Speaking of Lynn Shelton, I finally got around to watching HUMPDAY which obviously was also great. I mean this is a list of the best things I watched in 2012 so obviously it is going to be great. It's from 2009 and who knows why it took me this long to get around to, it just did. "Humpday. Is. Great!" I believe was the review from TFid and dude was not lying. Fun! Where is Joshua Leonard these days?

AND THEN... Duplass Brothers' JEFF WHO LIVES AT HOME Geez Louise. Was this actually released in 2011 I didn't think so but the internet says otherwise. Maybe Australia got it a year late? Well who cares. How repetitive is this post by now? I feel like all I am saying is THIS WAS SO GREAT but really these guys are just unstoppable. I'm not a huge Ed Helms fan I don't know why really I suppose I am indifferent, he's fine, but Jason Segel is just so charming no matter what. I remember him having good physical comedy in this, too, with the hiding and running into things maybe? Anyway what a nice film. NICE. I get a feeling those Duplass' are just such nice dudes.

And even though it is now 2013 while I write this, tomorrow I am watching DO-DECA-PENTATHALON and I am 100% certain it will be super great. Suuuuuper Great, Can't Wait!

Duplass Brothers, I love you.

ps for the record other films I enjoyed in cinemas: Seven Psychopaths, Argo, Damsels in Distress, Dark Horse, Melancholia, Moonrise Kingdom, Take This Waltz, Young Adult. Plus at home: Diner, Friday Night Lights, Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Descendants. And also soooo many documentaries, maybe I will write about them another time.

MY BEST OF 2012: Music

I cannot compile a list of favourite albums at all hey, what is that about? Nothing blew me away. Was this year quiet or have I forgotten how to get into something? Who knows but here is a random assortment of things I enjoyed.

Oh remember when you first heard and saw Azealia Banks and how fun 212 was? Good times! Well this just in, it is still really fun. I would say this can stay a favourite of 2012 but the rest of her didn't stick that well with me. Well 1991 was okay but then Fantasea was annoying. Also internet fights come on now. Anyways. It is all mostly this video. Still excellent.

Along these same lines (HOW GOOD IS THAT SINGLE AND VIDEO AND OMG LOVE HER but then the rest of the stuff I am not as psyched about) can go Losing You by Solange. Although the rest of her EP is better than the rest of Banks'. And she is farrrrr more likeable. But I'll probably just keep Losing You on a playlist and forget the rest eventually, hey, no point hiding the truths here, internet. Watch this video again for the hundredth time though, you won't regret it.

The Frowning Clouds are some youngins from Geelong who supported Black Lips earlier this year and they were/are GREAT and also they're on this great Nuggets Cover Album which is a freaking delight, and turns out they even have an album out from a few years ago who knew? Why don't I own this already?
Please note how excellently 60s this record cover is in every way
Actual albums/EPs from 2012 that I enjoyed at least 60% and maybe up to 90% but none 100%

  • Cat Power - Sun
  • Boomgates - Double Natural
  • Deep Sea Arcade - Outlands
  • Kishi Bashi - 151a
  • Grizzly Bear - Shields
  • Courtney Barnett - I've got a friend called Emily Ferris
  • Howard Kremer - Have A Summah

Oh okay turns out there were quite a few albums released this year I liked. There you go, that was my top picks, good work, music! Oh the Paul Kelly one I know is good too but I haven't given it the solid time that it deserves. Also I should probably listen to the Tim Rogers one (I forgot about it) and also Tame Impala (apparently) but I have not. "Marry me!" - Maeby Funke. Sidenote: LastFM tells me I mostly listened to Jay Z & Kanye, followed by Arcade Fire and Those Darlins.. which is no surprise to me, whats it to you?

PS Meanwhile, just quietly, Best Coast were disappointing on two levels: I saw them live and it was not great, and then the second album too was not great. Booo! Get better again soon, Best Coast! I still love the first album, lets pretend the second one didn't happen.
